Chiron

The Discovery:
Chiron was discovered in November of 1977 by astronomer Charles
T. Kowal, just inside the orbit of Uranus. Chiron was originally
designated "Slow-Moving Object Kowal" before being named
"Chiron". It was given the provisional minor planet
designation 1977 UB and later the classification of a minor planet
and permanent #2060.
Since its discovery astronomers speculated that
Chiron may be a Comet, and not a minor planet. Some scientist
believe that Chiron originated out of our solar system and may
leave someday. In the late 80's evidence of a coma around Chiron
became undeniable and it was given the short-period comet number
95P/Chiron. The volume of Chiron is over 50,000 times the volume
of the typical comet making it closer in size to an asteroid.
Chiron still holds the minor planet designation 2060/Chiron and
is unique in that it is designated as both a minor planet and
a comet. Over time more objects were found; the first companion
for Chiron, Pholus, was discovered in January 1992. As of April
2002, there are at least Forty One known Centaurs (official designation).
Chiron is a planetoid, larger than an asteroid,
but smaller than a planet. Chirons orbit is 50.7 years and takes
it from inside of the orbit of Saturn to just outside the orbit
of Uranus. It is sometimes described as a bridge or link between
the inner or personal planets (the outer limit being Saturn) and
the archetypal, generational, outer planets (Uranus, Neptune and
Pluto). The erratic orbit of Chiron puts it in Aries for about
8 years ( its furthest from the Sun) and in Libra for only 1 1/2
years ( within Saturns orbit).
The Mythology:
In mythology, Chiron was the son of Saturn (Kronos) and the Grandson
of Uranus. For more information on Chiron in mythology try this

In Astrology:
Astrologically, Chirons placement in a horoscope indicates
one's experience of the wound that does not heal. We have to die
to it in order to gain from it. If we hold onto our wound we will
suffer needlessly, this would be a living death. Chiron is referred
to as the wounded-healer and the placement of Chiron is where
we need to heal ourselves; Chiron covers heartbreaks, sorrows,
physical injuries and abandonment. They symbol for Chiron looks
like a little key in your chart. Chiron is important, but does
not get the same importance as a planet or an aspect; give it
about 1/4th of the credit you give a planet. The sign determines
the type of injury ... and the house determines where. The great
thing about Chiron, is that you can heal your own health problems
it brings in.
Chiron in Aries or the
1st house
Chiron in Aries or the 1st house
are on a quest to find personal meaning in awareness and existence.
Some cope with their early wounds by withdrawing, others overcompensate
with aggression. They are prone to Aries health problems and dangers,
head wounds, headaches, guns and knives. You can have Chiron in
Taurus in the 1st and still deal with head injuries because its
in the first house (ruled by Aries). In another example you could
have Chiron in the 12th in Aries and still have the head injuries.
With Chiron in the 1st or in Aries their spiritual seeking does
not go much farther than the physical, they need to learn to heal
spiritually not just physically.
Chiron in Taurus or the
2nd house
Chiron in Taurus or the 2nd house seeks comfort from physical
and material things such as money and sex. A lack of appropriate
physical affection or sexual abuse in early childhood creates
low self esteem. They make good teachers or counselors. They can
heal by counseling others that have been through what they went
through. Chiron in this position will also have the classic Taurus
health problems but will also have the ability to heal. The main
thing here is the "self-worth" abuse and having to heal
from that experience.
Chiron in Gemini or the
3rd house
Chiron in Gemini or the 3rd house shows early injuries to the
voice or hearing. This placement has communication issues through
health problems. They can be painfully shy which stems from early
communications problems. They often have stuttering problems and
need to chose words and communications carefully. They take their
time with thoughts and words, they want to be certain that they
express themselves correctly.Later in life, they may express themselves
with too much precision to over compensate.
Chiron in Cancer or the
4th house
Chiron in Cancer or the 4th house, this is a tricky one. These
people always feel like a fish out of water never finding a place
to belong. They often have feelings of being adopted or talk about
being aliens. This can indicate childhood abuse, early childhood
trauma and/or abandonment by the father. They want to really belong
or feel they belong to something. Some will not want to start
families of their own because their early childhood was riddled
with violence and abandonment. This placement calls for lots of
counseling or one finds themselves alone in later life.
Chiron in Leo or the 5th
house
Chiron in Leo or the 5th house didn't get attention as kids, so
they over compensate. They will definitely have more than one
ego crisis in this lifetime. Saturn returns will break down ego
and force them to rebuild with a new sense of purpose. They doubt
their creativity, and are insecure about it, but have tons of
it. By expressing their creativity they heal themselves of the
pain.
Chiron in Virgo or the
6th house
Chiron in Virgo or the 6th house. This is the toughest placement
for Chiron, it is the wounded healer in the house of health. Chiron
here shows your healing power is wounded. They are susceptible
to health issues through stress and emotions. They can be a compulsive
workaholic, once again effecting health. Diet is especially important
here. With this placement it is hard to heal yourself like the
other placements but it is a good placement for a healer who drains
themselves while healing others.
Chiron in Libra or the
7th house
Chiron in Libra or the 7th house indicates some kind of wounding
or rejection in relationships. This is a psychic placement as
well. They only feel balanced with a partner and the partner is
the problem These are the people that don't like to be alone,
so they get a partner out of desperation and it is usually someone
who is not good for them. They need to define strong boundaries
between themselves and loved ones to prevent or stop a cycle of
codependency or abuse.
Chiron in Scorpio or the
8th house
Chiron in Scorpio or the 8th house. This is another tough one,
their personal growth comes from the mysteries of life, death,
birth and transformation. They can be powerful psychics, very
empathic and can also be channels. They deal with death a lot
and will suffer many deaths and losses, but it is to give them
profound insight. This placement needs to work with something
like hospice making people feel better about death; that is how
they can heal and make a contribution.
Chiron in Sagittarius
or the 9th house
Chiron in Sagittarius or the 9th house shows a wounding or break
with the traditions or spiritual teachings as youths. Not being
able to chose a belief system at an early age, being inhibited
in spiritual growth as a child. This placement probably got organized
religion when all they wanted was Buddhism. Their life is one
continuing spiritual crisis. They can be drawn to atheism because
of the rejection of fundamental teachings in youth. They also
make good teachers of philosophy, it helps them to heal from the
fundamentalist religion they repelled as a child.
Chiron in Capricorn or
the 10th house
Chiron in Capricorn or the 10th house has a strong need to strive
for a prominent place in society or career. This is another workaholic
placement but this time for status, they feel strongly motivated
to justify their self-worth. Chiron here can show early childhood
rejection, that mom or dad was not around; some sort of rejection
by one or both parents. They need to justify their self worth.
This stems from poverty as a child and they need to check motives
and give to charity to heal.
Chiron in Aquarius or
the 11th house
Chiron in Aquarius or the 11th house, they do not feel comfortable
in crowds or groups. They know they have always been odd and different,
social rejection has made them withdraw. They can be surrounded
by the wrong crowd of people or be hurt by friends, especially
in school as a child. Social rejection makes them withdraw into
groups who share their interests and concerns. They love technology
and the Internet. They may have one or two good friends through
out their lives. This placement needs to heal through research
and technology, something less personal like catch child molesters
on the Internet. They never feel accepted, well, except by the
people that have been abducted by aliens...
Chiron in Pisces or the
12th house
Chiron in Pisces or the 12th house. Here the crisis is on a level
of "Universal Consciousness". These people feel more
connected to the spiritual or "God" level than to the
physical plane. They are psychic, empathic and have the ability
to heal. Deep depression and drugs are also a part of this placement.
They cannot take the harsh realities of the real world so they
alter their state of mind. They are so sensitive and live so much
in the astral, that it is hard for them to deal with the simplest
things, like paying bills. Working to help or heal others can
be healing to this placement.
