Making Your Own Bathsalts
|
|
The basic ingredients are borax , baking soda (sodium
bicarbonate) & Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate). Some herbalists
also use table salt, sea or mineral salts. Add the ingredients to
a large bowl in these proportions:
3 parts Epsom salts
2 parts baking soda
1 part borax (or table salt )
Essential (scented, herbal/floral) Oils (chosen for its Magickal
properties)
Food coloring if desired (optional but choose based on the colors
Magickal properties)
Mix thoroughly using your hands to stir the ingredients.
Some people will tell you to use a spoon or other utensil, I feel
the salts work better if you use your hands because it empowers
them with your energy and vibrations. You now have the base from
which you can create a wide variety of bath salts. Its wise to add
colors to bath salts. Use plain food coloring for this purpose,
letting it fall drop by drop onto the salt base.
Choose a color based on the Magickal intent. If two or more colors
are required to mix an exotic hue (such as purple), mix these in
a spoon first and then add to the salts to avoid creating a two-toned
product, unless of course, you plan on a two or three tone salt.
Add many drops for a darker colored salt; fewer for a lightly hued
salt. Mix the color into the salts until it is evenly distributed;
again use your hands (if you must you may use a utensil).
Now add the essential oils drop by drop, one ingredient at a time,
until the scent seems right. Using your hands and fingertips, mix
it until all salt particles are moistened. This may take fifteen
minutes or longer. Rely on your nose to determine the exact quantities.
The more potent the finished products' scent, the less will have
to be used for each bath. They should be strongly scented.
To use, add from 2 tablespoons to one-half cup of the bath salts
to a full tub. Mix with your hands into the water.
Should be stored airtight to keep the oils from escaping.
NOTE: You can blend the basic recipe above in a
larger quantity and store. Add the oils add color as needed based
on the use at the time. This allows you to have the mixture ready
for any use (ritual) and prevents unused salts from loosing the
oil in storage over a long time.

These recipes are based on using about 2 cups of
the above, adjust as always to your taste.

2 tbsp Citric Acid
2 tbsp cornstarch
1/4 cup baking soda
3 tbsp Coconut Oil, Almond Oil, Avocado Oil or Apricot Kernel Oil
1/4 tsp Fragrance Oil or essential oil
3 to 6 drops of food coloring
Place all of the dry ingredients into a bowl and
mix well.
In a small glass bowl melt oil then add fragrance and food coloring.
Slowly add the oil mixture to the dry ingredients and blend well.
Take spoonfulls of the mixture and shape into balls. Balls should
be about one inch in diameter.
Let the balls rest on a sheet of waxed paper for two to three hours.
Gently reshape if needed.
Let the balls dry and harden for 24 to 48 hours. Store in a container
with a tight fitting lid or wrap individually in plastic wrap or
foil so the essential oil does not escape.

Scented Bath Crystals
Coarse rock salt
Food coloring
Essential oil
Place rock salt in a container with a lid, fill
no more than 2/3 full so you will have shaking room. For each cup
of salt, add 2 or 3 drops of food coloring. Shake well. Add 2 or
3 more drops of coloring at a time, and continue mixing until desired
color is reached. Once you have the color you want add 20 to 25
drops of essential oils, mixing or shaking well until oils are thoroughly
absorbed. Display salts in a pretty glass jar. Keep jar tightly
closed or the oil will quickly evaporate. Use 1 or 2 heaping tablespoons
for bathwater
