How To Make A Drip Still
A working drip still can be made
very economically using ordinary household items.
You will need a deep pot with a dome shaped lid, a few cereal
bowls, and a wire rack to hold your distillate bowl away from
the bottom of the pot.
For best results use stainless steel, or a flameproof crockery
or glass.
Never use iron, aluminum or galvanized ware
They will produce a poisonous product.
This method works well for making both medicines and teas. Using
a drip still will prevent the loss of flavor and medicinal value
that normally occurs when making teas with infusions of boiling
water.
The resulting "tea" product will be much stronger made
this way, please keep that in mind when brewing for a medicine.
Always know the herbs/plants you are dealing with. Not doing so
can produce bad and even fatal results. Never
ingest anything you are not positive about.

-
Place the wire rack in the pan
and then place a bowl on top of it.
-
Put enough water in the pan to
come close but not to the top edge of the bowl.
-
Cover and bring this to a low
boil. A rolling boil is not recommended, if it splashes into
the bowl it will dilute the end product.
-
Once you have a low boil, place
the herbs in the water around the bowl and invert the lid on
the top.
-
Place cold water or ice inside
the inverted lid at the top.
-
Keep a check on the temperature
of the water in the lid, if it begins to warm up dip it out
and put in more cold water or ice.
-
The vapors containing plant
extracts rise up, hit the cool lid, and run off the center dripping
into the bowl.
-
Check the bowl often it fills
up fast once the process starts.
