Ferret Weight / Body Types

Akasha is a chocolate ferret. She is the only female in the crew and the smallest ferret here at just over a pound.

Female ferrets weigh an average of 3/4 to 2 pounds while males average up to 3 1/2 pounds. Un altered or late alter ferrets can be even larger. Genetics also plays a role in a ferrets size. I have
heard two terms tossed around for body types, "bulldog" and "whippet" .

Bulldog body types are heavier, shorter block-shaped body with a shorter wider head. They are usually at the top end of the weight range or over it.

Whippet types are slender and longer than average giving them an overall slinky appearance.

Ferrets can be expected to gain up to 40% of their body weight during winter months and loose it during warmer months.
