Blizzard loves his kitty babble ball

Ferret Toys

Blizzard is enjoying his Babble Ball®.
Toys for ferrets should be examined often for wear. Not all toys marketed for ferrets are safe. There are many toys that your ferrets will love that are designed for cats, dogs and even babies.
A few guidelines to follow when choosing a ferret toy are:

Safe toys:

  • Sturdy hard plastic toys.
  • Hard plastic balls with or without bells
  • Tubes! Tubes! Tubes! Ferret tubes & PVC pipes
some ferrets will chew the clear plastic tubes which can create a blockage if ingested. Inspect the tubes often and if your ferrets are chewing it, use only when supervised.
  • Cardboard boxes
  • Non clingy type Shopping bags with the handles cut and the bottom torn open.
  • Rattles, and other hard plastic toys made for human babies.
  • Small stuffed animals with or without squeakers, make sure they do not have eyes that can come off and be swallowed
  • Toys on strings that dangle, use only when supervised so they do not become tangled in the string.
  • Crinkle bags
  • Tents, cloth hiding sacks, a blanket on the floor preferably folded so that it creates several "layers" for tunneling.
  • Dig boxes
Many household items including:
  • Empty thread spools
  • Empty plastic cola bottles
  • Pocket-sized tissue packs
  • Lids from containers that are too big to swallow and small enough for them to steal and stash
  • Plastic cups and glasses
  • Ice cubes, they won't last long before they melt but many ferrets enjoy them while they last!

Bored Ferrets

Ferrets are intelligent and inquisitive creatures. A bored ferret is often a mischievous or destructive ferret. Provide a variety of toys for your ferrets. Rotate the toys they have out to keep them interesting. I keep several "sets" of toys and exchange them about once a week. Washing toys that are washable keeps down the "ferret" smell and changes the smell to make them seem like new toys. Try puting a few drops of vanilla extract in the rinse water.

Of course this won't stop them from finding treasures of their own by stealing your things and hiding them from you!
