Herbal Hair Treatments
|
To darken hair rinse with chamomile tea to bring
out highlights.

Hair Lightener
3 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
3 Tbsp fresh sqeezed lime juice.
1 Tbsp lemon extract
Put in a spray bottle and spray onto hair. This
will only work if you go out into the sun for 1/2 hr. A blowdryer
does not work.

Dry Hair Treatment
1 avocado
1 egg white
2 Tbsp baby oil
Blend to a paste apply to wet or dry hair. Wrap
your head up in plastic for 20 min. Works even better if you sit
in the sun or under a heat cap. Wash out with warm water. Shampoo
and condition.

Hair Rinse for Dandruff
1 oz dried rosemary leaves
1 quartt cold water
10 drops lavender oil
5 drops peppermint or other mint oil
2 Tbsp witch hazel
Bring water and rosemary leaves to boil. Simmer
covered 20 min, strain, cool to room temp, add oils and witch hazel,
stir, pour into container.
Makes 1 application, can make more and store in glass jar in Refrigerator.
Dandruff can be caused by poor diet and/or hormonal
imbalances.

Hot Oil Treatment for Dry Hair
2 cups olive oil
1 oz comfrey root pieces or dried leaves
20 drops lavender oil
20 drops rosemary oil
Combine the herbs and olive oil in slow cooker and
heat 3 hours.
Strain and pour into a bowl, add the other oils and whisk to blend.
Pour into containers and use as needed.
Once a week heat ½ cup of this oil in a glass
jar in microwave or by setting it in a cup of very hot water until
very warm, pour into palm of hand and rub into scalp ad hair until
it is saturated with oil, cover head with plastic warp or plastic
shower cap, secure tightly, leave for 30 min then wash hair thoroughly
with mild shampoo, rinse well.

Herbal Shampoo
1/4cup of your favorite herbal tea, strongly brewed
8oz liquid castile soap
Add soap to tea. Stir over low heat until well
blended. Store in a capped
bottle.

Hair Shine
1 tsp honey
4 cups (1 quart) warm water
Stir together. Blondes may wish to add a squeeze
of lemon. After shampooing, pour mixture through hair. Do not rinse
out. Dry as normal.

Hair Conditioner
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup olive oil. You may wish to use only 2 Tbsp oil for normal
hair
Mix together and work a small amount at a time through
hair until it is coated. Cover hair with a shower cap; leave on
30 minutes. Remove shower cap; shampoo well and rinse. Dry as normal.

Basic Herbal Shampoo
2 Tbsp dried or one hand full fresh soapwort
1 Tbsp chamomile flowers
1 tsp borax
Put ingredients into a glass or pottery jar and
fill with 300ml or 1 1/4 cups of boiling water. Let steep for 24
hours shaking the jars from time to time. Strain through a strainer
and discard herbs.
For anti-dandruff add stinging nettle and parsley.
For different fragrances add lavender or sage or herb of your choice.

Herbal Shampoo
3 cups distilled water
1 1/2 Tbsp calendula (pot marigold)
3 tsp rosemary
1 1/2 Tbsp nettle
3 tsp orange peel
3 tsp comfrey
3 Tbsp chamomile
3/4 tsp essential oil of lavender
1 1/2 tsp jojoba oil (omit if hair is oily)
3/4 cup all-natural, gentle baby shampoo
Bring water to a boil and remove from heat. Add
the herbs, cover, and steep for 30 minutes. Strain the mixture into
a medium bowl, add the oils and stir vigorously. Add the shampoo
and gently stir until thoroughly mixed. Pour into a labeled bottle
and keep refrigerated to preserve the freshness.
You can keep a small bottle in the shower with no
more than enough shampoo for about one week, if you wish. Use approximately
1Tbsp per application. This shampoo cleans gently with low sudsing.
Before each use, lightly shake the shampoo to mix the ingredients.

Homemade Hair Spray
Chop one lemon (use an orange for dry hair). Place
in a pot with 2 cups water. Boil down to half. Cool, strain, and
place in a spray bottle. Store in the refrigerator.
If too sticky, add more water. Place in a fine spray
bottle. Tip may clog if it does, soak it in hot water before using.
You can also add one ounce
rubbing alcohol or vodka as a preservative and the spray can be
stored for up to two weeks unrefrigerated.

Cure Dandruff
Pour Vinegar onto your hair, massage into the scalp,
leave to dry for a few minutes, then wash your hair.
Repeat daily until the dandruff disappears, usually within a few
days.
