Herbal Remedies

Lemon-Ginger Lozenge
- 2 Cups Sugar
- 3 Tablespoons Butter
- 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 Cup Lemon Juice
- 1 Tablespoon Ginger
- 1/2 Cup Honey
Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan. Heat
stirring constantly until the temperature reaches 265 F or until
a teaspoon of the syrup will form a hard ball when dropped in cold
water. Remove from the heat. Pour the syrup onto a buttered surface
such as a cookie tray. Let the mixture cool until you can handle
it. Butter your hands and pull half of the candy until it keeps
its shape when pulled. Keep the rest of the candy in the oven at
200 F until ready to pull. Twist the candy into ropes and use scissors
to cut. Let it stand until fully cool and hard. Store in an airtight
container.

Fever Syrup
- 1/2 Ounce Fresh Sage
- 1 Oz Sugar
- Juice of One Lemon
- 1/4 Oz Lemon Rind
- Water To Cover
Add all ingredients to a saucepan and cover with
water. Stir over low heat until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Simmer for a few minutes while mixing. Once simmering, place the
cover on the saucepan and let sit for one and a half hours. Remove
from heat and strain into a jar. Have a tablespoon as needed but
no more than 5 times a day.

Nausea Syrup
- 2 Cups Water
- 1 Teaspoon Fennel Seed
- 1 Teaspoon Peppermint
- 1 Teaspoon Ginger
- 1 Cup Honey or Sugar
Bring the herbs and water to a boil. Cover with
the lid and let simmer for 20-30 minutes. Remove the herbs by straining
and add the sugar or honey. Mix and simmer until it thickens. Do
not add lemon or acidic substances.

Barley Water - a Recipe from
Biblical times
An ancient home remedy believed to clear up the
complexion and stop wrinkles.
- 1/2 cup honey (more to taste)
- 8 cups water
- 1 cup barley
- pinch of salt
Rinse barley and combine with water and salt in
a large kettle. Bring to a boil and simmer for at least 2 hours
and up to 24 hours. The longer it's cooked, the thicker the barley
water will be. Add water as needed to keep the water at about 5
cups. Strain out the barley, flavor barley water with honey and
serve chilled.

Arnica Salve
Arnica is one of the best remedies
for external healing of bruises and sprains. It was used traditionally
to help relieve rheumatic pain and where ever there is pain and/or
inflammation on the skin.
Place the infused oil in a double
boiler. Warm the oil and add the bees wax. Once the wax melts
add wintergreen oil. Pour into containers and label.
EXTERNAL USE ONLY
- DO NOT USE ON BROKEN SKIN

Burn Salve
First make an infused oil:
- 1/2 oz St Johns Wort
- Plantain
- Calendula
- Comfrey Leaf
Then make the salve using:
- 1 cup of the infused oil
- 1 3/4 oz of Bees wax
- 1/2 tsp essential oil of Lavender
Melt the wax in a double boiler with the infused
oil. Once the wax is melted add essential oil of lavender. Pour
into small clean jars. Cover and label.

Cuts
Plantain leaf
Crush the leaf before applying it. This releases
the healing compounds and creates a soothing mucilaginous gel. Wound
can be covered with another leaf that has had olive oil applied
to the back to keep it moist. Hold in place with adhesive tape.
Change daily until healed
